Digital solutions for climate adaptation (DISCO)
In DISCO, partners create Ecosystems for Innovation (EFIs) to increase the capacities of cities and regions to innovate and accelerate climate change adaptation (CCA). In an EFI, the demand for new solutions, forms of engagement, improved exchange and supporting resources is addressed jointly, thus providing the breeding ground to more successfully deciding on and implementing CCA measures. This is important as NS region authorities urgently need to speed up CCA. But they are facing a set of complex challenges when it comes to deciding on and realizing the needed adaptation measures. This is due to the combination of dealing with the complexity of data for decision making in CCA with the need to timely and justly involve connected target groups. Digital solutions (e.g. AR, VR, digital twin) have shown to be able to take extensive and varied data sets and turn them into trustworthy calculations and visuals, facilitating a shared image of possibilities otherwise difficult to imagine and achieve. They have proven to be a key enabler in the development of sustainable and climate adaptive cities and regions. But to implement such innovative solutions now and in the future, a good understanding and trust between the digital sector, CCA authorities and targeted stakeholders are essential. An EFI provides this!
