The favourable location of Elsfleth (population 10,000) at the junction of the rivers Weser and Hunte near the North Sea is the reason for its rich maritime tradition and strong links to marine transport and shipbuilding. With the largest maritime university facility in Western Europe, the small town of Elsfleth is known not only in nautical circles. Far removed from the anonymity of a city, the town and campus make it easy for new arrivals to feel at home.
You'll find everything you need right on your doorstep. The highlight of the event calendar for Elsfleth's students is without doubt the Maritime Festival held by the Maritime and Logistics Studies Department every May. The day starts with a boat race on the river Hunte, continues with an international football competition, and ends early next morning after a long party. Also nearby and not to be missed are the North Sea coast as well as the cities of Oldenburg and Bremen.
