The collaboration with Texas Tech University, Lubbock USA has existed since 1987. The Lower Saxony regional center for political education has initiated cooperation with the Edward E. Whitacre Jr. College of Engineering.
The first visit of 15 German students under the direction of Prof. Dr. Horst Germer and the visit of 17 American students took place in spring 1987. The exchange of students then continued over several years with a few students. Unfortunately there were no longer visits for an extended period of time.
In 2009, the contact to Texas Tech University was revitilized with the visit of a group of German students. At this point, the Jade University of Applied Sciences changed their programs to the Bachelor / Master system. The compatibility of the systems was thus facilitated. After successful discussions in Texas, the first German-American summerprogram took place in summer 2010. Two contracts comprising the summerprogram and a double master program laid the foundation for the cooperation between the two universities. Since then, the summerprogram has taken place every year and a summerproject has been carried out every two years since 2014.
Through the organization of the summerprograms and summerprojects in Wilhemshaven, the students of the two departments of Engineering Sciences and Management, Information, Technology can acquire a double master degree, or study master modules for a semester. Three particularly successful former students from the Department of Management, Information and Technology have now received a Ph.D. (Doctor of Philosophy), the doctoral degree awarded in the English-speaking countries, at Texas Tech University.
