Specialization area Automation Technology
Automation technology deals with the automatic control of technical processes. At the same time, systems and machines are designed and programmed in such a way that they can work independently and without human intervention. In the future, more and more intelligent and digitally networked systems will be used. With them a largely self-organized production is possible in which people, plants, machines and products communicate with each other (Industry 4.0). Networking makes it possible to optimize not just one production step but an entire value chain.
Automation engineers must be able to analyze static and dynamic processes with regard to their mode of operation. This is the prerequisite for designing control, regulation, automation and information processing structures. Automation technology includes the planning, development and setup and networking of plants and machines as well as the design of processes and algorithms. Automation is used in many areas, such as the automotive industry, aerospace, mechanical engineering and energy systems.
